Establishment Process of a CRE (Spanish Residents Council)
1. Election and Constitution:

CREs are democratically elected by Spanish citizens registered within a specific consular district.

Elections are called periodically (typically every four years) to renew or establish new CREs.
2. Requirements:

Forming a CRE requires a minimum of 1200 Spanish citizens registered in the consular electoral census.

Elections must be officially announced by the consulate, notifying the resident Spanish community.
3. Electoral Process:

Electoral lists are formed and must be endorsed by a minimum number of signatures from registered Spanish citizens.

Elections typically take place between March and May and can be conducted either in person or by mail.

4. CRE Functions:

Acts as a communication channel between the Spanish community and consular offices.

Proposes measures to enhance consular services and advises on issues affecting the Spanish community abroad.

5. CRE Establishment :

The CRE is officially established 30 days after the elections.

Elected CRE members collaborate with the consulate and other institutions to implement projects and activities benefiting the Spanish community.
Creation of CRE Sydney

Sydney's CRE was established as a result of elections held on May 22, 2021, where initially two lists were presented: Picasso and Dalí.

Following the elections, the two lists merged, electing 4 participants from the winning list and 3 from the second list to form the Spanish Residents Council (CRE) of Sydney.

Sydney's CRE represents Spaniards in the consular demarcation that includes NSW, NT, QLD, and the Pacific Islands.

Its functions include the defense of civil and labor rights, educational support, social and cultural action, among others.
